I make functional and pleasing things to help people get where they want to go. Early on, I designed signage for hotels, malls and town centers. Some may feel like that was a monotonous task to locate every emergency exit, but I loved it because I was making something useful, though ubiquitous. Directional signage that facilitated navigation through a physical space; ultimate usability. Signs and placards that took on the personality of the space it occupied.
I liked how something drawn in pixels can persist, and enhance our experience with the built environment. In some cases, this signage has meaning beyond the pixels they’re born from. They adopt a brand, mark a moment in time, provide security and reassurance. As a designer, I am grateful to be a part of that experience.
Much of my career has been spent improving access and capabilities of some of the most complex systems in government. These are systems that help people complete their job tasks, provide benefits to others, create healthcare appointments, refill medications, submit claims, and adjudicate cases. I am proud to have a portfolio of work that represents a number of digital transformations that have resulted in cost savings, life savings, and time savings.
I have worked with some of the most dedicated teams to execute and exceed client goals. I design across the stack, due to my past experience consulting in ambiguous environments with outdated tech. Working on diverse teams with cross functional capabilities to ensure product success is integral to my process. I have triangulated engineering with business needs and end user needs to make enhancements that provide value to the product and the people using it. I am AI-aware, and not AI-dependent. I enjoy learning from others, leading teams, and working independently.
I live and work in DC. I like painting, fitness, and fixing problems. Let’s talk about how we can work together!
